It was a only few days ago when I was in Li Kwoh Ans office. (I think you know him) among other things there was not a single benefit done by the revolutionists for the country more people. Not one revolutionist is good, sincere, unselfish or patriotic. I told him there are. But he said “Can you mention me”。 I said “Dr. Sun”。 Then his face turned red and for a few minutes he was dumb. Then said he why did not he stay in China or go back? I said “he is too noble a gentleman to keep company with thieves and cutthroats”。 Since they (those in power) would not listen to him, he did as Confucius had done when those in power would not listen to him. In fact, nothing could arouse my blood and make me as angry as when anyone who tries to run you down or says anything against you. I gave Li Kwoh An such a lecture that I am sure he will never like to see me again in his office. Since then we met in the Club but we do not speak to each other now. He was a friend of mine but now he is my enemy because I took up for you and defended you. I dont care who he or she is, if he or the runs you down in my presence, I will do you Justice. As a friend, I feel it is my duty to defend your innocence and uphold the cause, let come what may, I told Li “that if it was not for Dr. Suns good work, you will still have that disgraceful tail hangs from the top of your head today and that is one of the benefits you enjoy today”。 He tried to make me believe that queue (tail) was to be cut off anyway. I said“Yes, there were tons of talks about it but that was all for no one dares to set an example by cutting his own off. To talk is cheap and one thing but to do is dear and another things”。 I got him so he could not argued with reason but he presented a shameful face.
Your request has been carried out — Both of the letters, yours and Yungs consigned to fire.
I do not wish to cable for Rosa as I had already written to her to accompany her mother to Shansi next month as Eiling is expected to be in confinement then. She does not like to go North because she is afraid of mosquitoes there, but she will have to go and come with mother. My health is improving I think but there is still albumen in urine and I am feeling weak physically. Hope you and yours are in good health. The members of my family have been sick this summer,Your old friend

My Dear Doctor,
Yours received. Just in receipt of a letter from Rosamonde saying that she is unable to go with her mother to her sister as she has to teach in Shanghai and she and her mother both are asking me to Mrs. Soong to Shansi which I can not comply with for divers reasons, one of which is that my health is growing worse in the last few days. But if I were well I would not go. I can hardly walk. In fact, I am getting so weak that I may not be able to recover at all after all. I am leaving for Shanghai by the French Mail on Sunday from there when I have rested. As Mrs. Soong must go to Shansi according to the Chinese Customs then I shall have to try my best to get some one else to go with her. I may come back to Japan again and if I do I shall go up to see you. In the meanwhile I beg to say goodbye. May God bless you and give you good health and success in all your undertakings.
Yours truly,
C.J. Soong
P.S. Please do not send any letter until you hear from me again.
