Wu Kaim Oh is in Japan. He brought his two daughters with him. One is 12 years old and the other 10. They are staying with their distant relative at Tarumi， a seashore resort. It is about 3/4 hours ride by train from Kobe. This relative of there is Mr. Y. K. Pow assistant comprador of Yokohama Spice Bank of Kobe. I was also know him. Kaimoh called at the club to see me and said Mr. Pow invited me to go down to spend a day with him so I went down with him the same afternoon. Kaimoh is going to Stami & Tokio on Saturday and will return to China on the 20th of this month. Kaimoh has the stomach trouble.
Yesterday I met Li Tsing Liang on the road with other Chinese students who were introduced to me as doctor so and so both of them. They are going to the U.S.A. to take a special course of study. I understand Li Tsing Meur is also in U.S.A. He went there last December.
Mother is going to Shangsi to see Eiling next month as E. is expected to be confined then. I wrote Chingling a long letter & request her to accompany mother there & back but she speak to want to remain in Shanghai and asked me to go with mother. I would be willing to go if it is perfectly safe for me to do so. But if I go I still wish her to go along with me. I wrote to her again & said if it is perfectly safe for me to go I will but she must go with us to keep up company and be a comfort to us. And if she is willing to comply with my request then cable me & I will return by first steamer. So I am waiting for a reply from her.
I am improving in health thank god. But there is still allergen in my urine and my blood pressure is very high yet.
Perhaps， this is the last letter I write to you from Kobe and if I get the reply next week I write to you from Kobe. Congratulate you upon the highest honour conferred on you by the student in America.

我亲爱的儿子：
你寄自伯灵顿的明信片和美龄的信同时寄来。获悉你俩身体健康，我很高兴。保重身体！没有一个好身体，教育实际上就如同其他东西一样毫无价值。所以，要始终以健康为重。
最近，上海遭遇了有史以来最大的一次风暴。妈妈说她从未看到上海以前有这么大的风暴。外滩所有的树都被刮倒了。河中的所有船和舢板被刮到了岸上。我们家高大的镀锌铁纱门被刮倒了，砸在牛家的“feapo”树上，并砸坏了它。一艘沿岸航行的“清泰”号轮船在吴淞口附近翻船，翻成了底朝天。船上有200多名乘客，有100多人当场溺水而亡。船上有4名刚从美国大学毕业回国的女孩，也被淹死了。想着这样的惨剧真是令人伤心。她们躲过了大海的风险，却被她们家乡的河水淹没，父母连一面都没见到。
老张伯伯的女儿大概要嫁给一个月薪120元的人，牛阿姨是媒人。新多[音译——译者注]大概也要嫁给一个月薪200或300元的人。刘耕[音译——译者注]现在是英美烟草公司在天津主要职员。他月薪195元，正在谈婚论嫁。桂永江[音译——译者注]死了，他的妻子对他母亲很不好。永江在婚前是个懂事的儿子，但是婚后成了一个十足的恶棍，由于他只听他妻子的话，对他母亲太不好了，所以当他死后，他妻子对他母亲更坏，有些人真是太忘恩负义了！
吴凯欧[音译——译者注]在日本。他的两个女儿跟着他。一个12岁，另一个10岁。他们和海滨胜地垂水垂水市是日本鹿儿岛县辖下的一个城市，位于大隅半岛的西北部，面向鹿儿岛湾并与樱岛相接。的远亲住在一起。从神户乘火车大约需要3到4个小时。那里的远亲是鲍[音译——译者注]先生，是神户的横滨香料银行的买办。我也认识他。凯欧来俱乐部看我，并说鲍先生邀请我去一天。所以我和他在一个下午一起去了。凯欧星期天将去热海和东京，本月20日返回中国。凯欧有胃病。
昨天，我在路上遇到了李清亮[音译——译者注]和另外两个中国学生，他们是学医的。他们将赴美深造。我明白李清默[音译——译者注]也在美国，他是去年12月去的。
下个月，妈妈将去山西看霭龄，因为霭龄那时要生了。我给庆龄写了一封长信，要求她陪妈妈一块儿来回，但她说她想留在上海，并要求我陪妈妈去。如果我是绝对安全的话，我是愿意去的。但如果我去，我仍然希望她和我一起去。我又给她写了一封信，说如果我绝对安全我将去但她必须和我们一起去，陪伴我们，让我们放心。如果她愿意就发电报给我，我将乘第一班轮船回国。所以我正在等她的回复。
感谢上帝，我的健康状况日益好转了。但是我的尿中仍有变应原，血压也非常高。
也许这是我从神户给你们写的最后一封信，如果我下周得到庆龄的回复，我会从神户写信给你们。祝贺你得到了美国学生的最高荣誉奖。

My Dear Doctor，
Your kind favor dated July 9th duly received with thanks. I wrote to Affo of my going to San Francisco and sorry I had to disappoint him. It was very kind of him to go to the steamer to meet me. Truly he has inherited the kindness of his father.
I am inclined to think that friend of yours must have met with an accident on the Eastern battlefield where Russians and Germans have been exhibiting the art of war. He like the most of his race was eager to get as （they would say） near the ticklish portbattle lineas possible in order to see for himself how well the Deutsche and Ruski could fight and in the meantime a blind bullet must have hit the wrong man by mistake. Anyhow I hope he will get turn up and come to see you.
Wei passed through here some days ago and I had supper with him a mutual friend named Pao who was born of Japanese mother in Kobe.
I shall not be able to go to America before this winter as my state of health will not allow me to have a long sea voyage. I still have headache in these few days. There is some albamen in urine yet and my blood pressure is very high. My physician is giving me some medicine to bring it down.
Please let me know when you have received an answer from America in regard to the arrangement for entering U.S.A. I may go with your men if possible and greatly oblige：Wei has told me that Ma Su has cabled to Daily News of Shanghai advising the different political parties to unite their effort to support Yuans Government. Is a screw in his head has become loosed or has he been converted by Yuans almight doller？ And gone back on his benevolent friend！

您7月9日之赐函我已按时收悉，不胜感激。我曾致信阿福（Affo）告知我打算前往旧金山一事，但终因无法成行，令他失望了。他说要亲自到码头迎接我，真是友好之至。这一点与其父颇为相似。
我总感觉您那位在东线战场的朋友一定是遇到了麻烦；那里俄、德两军激战正酣。他像他的大多数同胞一样，竭力接近棘手的港口地区——因为那里是战线——就为了亲眼目睹德国人和俄国人如何施展作战策略，而就在这同时，不长眼睛的子弹误伤了不该伤的人。无论如何，我希望他平安归来，与您团聚。
几天前，卫［音译——译者注］经过我这里，我与他一同吃了晚饭，还有一位我们都认识的朋友鲍［音译——译者注］；鲍生于神户，其母亲是日本人。
我因身体欠佳，不宜远洋旅行，所以今冬之前无法赴美。近日仍有头痛状况。小便略发炎症，血压亦甚高。正遵医嘱服药降压。
关于赴美事宜，若您收到美方回复，请告知。如若可能，我将与您的手下一同前往，并鼎力相助：我从卫处得知，马素已致电《上海每日新闻》报，建议各政治党派团结一致支持袁世凯政府。他精神不正常吗？抑或他已臣服于袁世凯万能的金钱诱惑之下？这是对他仁慈朋友的背信弃义！

I shall like to leave for U.S.A. on or about first of Dec. I dont think Rosamonde will go to America for she must keep her mother company and help her at home. But it is many months between now and December and arrangement may be altered.
It is rather hot for the last few days. I hope you are enjoying good health.
